HOUSEHOLD WORKERS / DOMESTIC HELP
Domestic workers comprise a significant part of the global workforce in informal employment and are among the most vulnerable groups of workers. They work for private households, often without clear terms of employment, unregistered in any book, and excluded from the scope of labour legislation.

The role description of a Domestic worker, Maid, Aaya, Baai or a Domestic Helper cum cook is basically to provide basic housekeeping services – sweeping, dusting, laundry, cleaning of utensils, bathroom and toilets and garbage disposal maintaining daily, weekly, long-time cleaning, cooking & serving meal as per schedule for the house and properly handle basic household appliances.

USD Consortium team is trying its level best to organize Domestic helps, Cooks, Baby Sitters, Elderly Care Helps (not clinical), Gardeners etc and train them in carrying out basic housekeeping services with professional Skills so that they can do their job in a more competent way.

We understand the training needs of this sector. We understand the domestic helps needs to know various ways to ensure good health and hygiene in their employer’s house by keeping everything clean and fresh besides maintaining their personal hygiene & safety .They need to dress up appropriately at work, display ethical behavior at all times and understand managing good relationships with house members, who may be stressed or angry. They should know the ways to use the available resources in the best possible manner and……….. many more leanings & trainings are required for making them fully skilled in their job.

  • The target we have set for ourselves is to
skill around 2000 domestic workers in the
FY 2016-2017. Our area of operation is initially Delhi
but very soon we will try to reach different parts of country as well.
To help them in performing all the duties and responsibilities with full vigor and
diligence, USD CONSORTIUM team organizes various camps in
different parts of Delhi in the month of March & April, 2016.

We strongly feel that the time has come when domestic workers should also be given a right to pursue education, a safe working environment and a grievance redressal mechanism which should promote equality of opportunity and treatment, and improve their working and living conditions.

It should also have a provision for mandatory contribution from the employer towards social security of the domestic workers.

As Domestic workers are also subjected to exploitation and therefore the welfare and protection of domestic labour force is very important.

USD Consortium is sincerely working for this cause by generating awareness in them, providing training to them in their area of work and making them fully skilled.
